Mr. Preston's feeling against slavery was so strong that he sold his property in Virginia and in 1825, with the wife and ten children removed to Columbia County, Ohio.
The trip took them through Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia. They crossed even the Ohio river by fording it. Then a hard day's drive brought the weary travelers to the farm home of Abi Preston's father. The trip took them five weeks, while now on the paved way it can be made in one day.
