Note: Jacob and Susan lived in Rockbridge Co. for the first thirteen years of their married life before moving to Jackson Co. then they purchased 105 acres in Jackson and made plans to move. By this time, they had four children who would accompany them. It must have been in the fall of 1848 that they finally left their home and their families. One can imagine that this was a rather sad forwell - they were doing what they thought was best, yet it is not likely they ever saw their families in Rockbridge again.
