Herbert ‘Bert’ Lyman Hotz

Herbert "Bert" Lyman Hotz died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango of natural causes. He was 91.

Mr. Hotz was born May 20, 1911, in Ring, New Mexico Territory, near Cimarron, the son of Marion and Elizabeth (Hilliker) Hotz. He married Verna (Thomas) Hotz on Oct. 18, 1940, in Aztec, N.M. They were married for 62 years and lived in the Bayfield area for 47 years. Mr. Hotz enjoyed fishing and gardening. He loved being with his family and working on the family home.

"He had a good life," said his daughter Ruth Ferriera, of Bayfield.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Ruth Ferriera of Bayfield and Nancy Fritz of Durango; a brother, Kenneth Leroy Hotz of Columbia Falls, Mont.; a sister, Minnie Johnson, of Westminster; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
