Mrs. Elizabeth Caruthers Hughey, wife of A. H. Hughey, superintendent of public schools, died last night at the home at 1414 North Virginia Street. She was 63.
Mr. Hughey found his wife lying in the hallway about five minutes after her death. He had returned home to go with her to the El Paso Symphony Orchestra concert. Her death was the result of a heart ailment.
A native of Texas, Mrs. Hughey was the daughter of J. A. Caruthers, founder of the Add-Ran College in Thorpe Springs, which is now Texas Christian College in Ft. Worth. Mrs. Hughey was a graduate of Add-Ran College.
She met and married Mr. Hughey in Weatherford in 1906. They came to El Paso in 1910.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Harrison Hughey, Jr., of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. T. L. Bloom and Miss Mame Caruthers of Weatherford, and Mrs. Amanda Hemphill of San Angelo; and two granddaughters.
The body will be sent by the Barry Hagedon Funeral Home to Weatherford tonight for funeral services and burial there. There will be no funeral services in El Paso.
