An 1884 biographical sketch of James More in the Lapeer County History Book, states the follo wing: "James More, deceased, was born in Scotland in 1816 and came to America in 1841. He st opped in New York until 1851, when he came to Michigan and located in the town of Almont, rem aining there until 1853, when he removed to Metamora and settled on Section 1. In 1857 he wa s elected sheriff of Lapeer County and removed to Lapeer City and resided there until the exp iration of his term of office. He then returned to Metamora, making that his home until 186 5 when he moved to Thornville, where he resided until his death in 1870. He was married in 1 851 to Miss Cynthia Richmond, of New York, by whom he had six children." (Page 114)
