"Sketches of the Olivers, A Family History 1726 to 1966, First Permanent Settelers of Cades Dove 1821" by H R & M.T. Oliver 1978. Self publshed but available from Mrs. Oliver by mail order focuses on the Olivers of Cades Cove, TN but there is a chapter dealing with this Richard to exclude him from their family. Notes from this chapter include:
-Isaac Oliver stated he lived in Rowan Co, NC during the Revolutionary War in an affadavit supporting the pension applicaiton of his brother Richard.
-state the the Court Minutes of 5 Nov 1774 show that John Oliver [whom they consider the Sr.], Richard Oliver, Sr. and Richard Oliver, Jr. put in for bounty for wolf scalps.
-They suggest that John Sr. was the father of John, William and Reason. That John Sr. was a brother of Richard Sr. and that Richard Sr was the father of Richard Jr and Isaac.
NOTE: During the time period he lived in Mecklenburg Co, NC Asa Oliver lived in Mecklenburg Co, VA. I presume that Asa was the son of James who died in Amelia County, VA in 1787 and left a will naming several children including Asa, Richard and John. That Asa Oliver died in 1796 in Mecklenburg Co, VA and was security for several marriages up to that time. Likewise a John Oliver was security for marriages in 1782 and 1793 but I have John, son of James elsewhere (perhaps incorrectly?)
