Susannah Ferris Angevine
Wife of Jonathan3 Angevine (1750-1819) (Eli2, Pierre1) and mother of his children Eli born 17 74, Caleb 1776, Deborah c1778, Stephen 1786, George c1789 (Angevine Genealogy, p. 35).
She died after 1827.
Jonathan and James Angevine, first cousins, married Susannah Ferris (1755-1827+) and Susan(na h) Ferris (1749-1816), apparently aunt and niece. The two Susans were also first cousins onc e removed.
Most genealogies say Jonathan Angevine's wife was the daughter of Gilbert and Sarah (Fowler ) Ferris, and others say she was probably the daughter of Moses and Sarah (Archer) Ferris (se e below).
Angevine Genealogy (1977) by Clyde V. Angevine, p.35, questions the maiden name Ferris for Jo nathan Angevine's wife Susannah.
Both the History of Westchester County (1881) by Robert Bolton and the Angevine Family Scrapb ook (aka Angevine Family Workbook) at the Paine-Huguenot Library state that Jonathan Angevine 's wife was Susannah Ferris.
Also The Genealogical Exchange, Volume 5 (1908), Page 3.
Some researchers say Jonathan Angevine's wife was the same Susan(nah) Ferris (1749-1816) wh o married his first cousin James3 Angevine (1755-1825) (Louis2, Pierre1) and had nine childre n: GILBERT b. c1774, Lewis 1776, Mary c1778, Elijah c1780, Phebe 1781, Susan 1783, Abigail 17 86, Hannah 1789, Ferris 1795.
The timeline of the children's births indicate she could not be the same Susan married to tw o different Angevine cousins simultaneously -- assuming their birth dates and fathers' name s are correct, although some of these easily could be confused with children of the other cou ple.
Some family trees online show Susannah Ferris (Mrs. Jonathan) Angevine as born 28 Jan 1755 an d died
3 Feb 1816, but that is the death date for Susan (Mrs. James) Angevine who was born Jan. 28 , 1749.
Angevine Genealogy, p.31, says James Angevine's wife Susan Ferris was the daughter of Gilber t and Sarah (Fowler) Ferris.
A Partial Genealogy of the Ferris Family, p. 7: "Susan m. ____Angevine, was a daughter of GIL BERT Ferris and Sarah, his wife, who was a daughter of Moses Fowler." Clyde Angevine interpre ts this to be the Susan who married James Angevine, their first son Gilbert being named for h is grandfather.
St. Pauls Historical Church Staff shows James Angevine's wife Susan as the daughter of Mose s and Sarah Ferris (Find A Grave Memorial# 53319982) and also lists their children as ANNE, L ewis, PETER and JANE.
Anne, Peter, and Jane are not shown by Clyde Angevine as children of either James or Jonatha n Angevine.
Eastchester Historical Society Records listed Susannah Ferris, died 3 February 1816, born 2 8 Jan 1749, daughter of Moses and Sarah Ferris; wife of James Angevine (died 1825). Possibl y the source for the church record (unless church archivists obtained the statement from East chester Hist. Soc. Records).
