    Her parents were not listed. She was the granddaughter of Paul D. Morrison and was living in his home.

    She was a resident of Seattle, WA in 1988 according to the Island News, 25 Jan 1988.

    Her surname was Ward.

    She was joined with her adoptive parents (her grandparents) and siblings by the obituary of her sister Margaret. Ketchikan Daily News, 4 Aug 2000

    She was then living in Seattle. Her married name was given as Ward. This source gave her first name as Mayella.

    The 1950 BIA census at Hydaburg indicated she was still living with her grandparents at that time.

    She was enumerated as 13/16 Alaska Native.

    Mayella Morrison Ward was born at Rose Inlet, Alaska. Her parents were Amy Skultka and
    Woodrow Morrison.

    Mayella was raised in Hydaburg by her paternal grandparents Paul & Viola Morrison. She attended Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka after which she worked for the Indian Health Services travelling all over the state providing dental services for children. She worked in Wyoming and Montana and was known for her love of independence and travel.

    She had said her best years were spent raising her sons: Michael. Jimmy and David.

    Mayella Roberta WARD We lost Mayella Friday March 27th at 11 p.m. She was born on August 4th 1936 in Rose Inlet, Alaska to Amy Skulka. Raised in Hydaburg she received her secondary education in Mt. Edgcumbe in Sitka, AK.

    After graduation she worked for Indian Health Services based out of Juneau traveling all over the states villages working on children's teeth.

    Her work continued to the lower 48 on reservations from Wyoming to Montana. These were great times in her life being very independent and being able to see the country far beyond where she grew up. In 1958 she competed in the Miss Indian America pageant in Sheridan Wyoming placing 1st runner up.

    Her best times were when she was rearing her three young boys Michael, David Jr. and James.

    Services will be held at Evergreen/Washelli. Viewing from 9a.m. to 11a.m. Service begins at 12 noon with committal to follow. The reception will be at Lake City Presbyterian Church's Fellowship Hall at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to LCPC's Hunger Program Published in the NWsource on 4/5/2009
