    He reared his family in Caswell County, North Carolina. In 1793 he moved to Russell County (now Scott) Virginia. He was then 50 or 60 years old. He is buried 2 miles north of Ft. Blackmore on the Clinch River in Scott County. His estate was probated in 1805. Fifteen years later it was still in the courts and Joseph was appointed administrator in Scott County in 1820.
