  • Note: Source: Gail Gilbert (gailgilbert@earthlink.net), provided via email, 8/24/1999, information regarding James Rupert Woodruff and Mary Elizabeth Jessee and their descendants, with the following comments. "James was the son of John Cooper and Elizabeth Bane Woodruff of the New Jersey line of Woodruffs. James moved to Missouri after his father remarried, ca. 1850 to work for Judge Jessee. I suspect there may have been some family connection that sent him there. By 1862, he had considerable land and three houses at Walnut Hill near St. Joe. James and Elizabeth's first two children died young. The third was my grandmother, Ella Louise Woodruff."
