  • Note: It was widely published that she was the daughter of William Gillis. However, there is no record of William Gillis ever being married or having any children. His brother Thomas married Jane Ross. William Gillis and Edward Cather were close friends and served together in Lord Dunsmore's War. In William's will, he leaves a few small items to Elizabeth for taking care of him on his deathbed, but he makes no mention of her being his daughter. He mentions that Thomas is his brother several times and leaves something to Thomas's son William.
