Obituary:

Ruth W. Cary, 73, of Corralville, Ia, formerly of Clarinda died Thursday, Nov. 16, at University Hospital in Iowa City.
She was born Sept. 17, 1916 in rural Clarinda, the daughter of Harvey and C. Myrtle (Opitz) Smith. She was a 1934 graduate of Red Oak High School and a graduate of Kennedy Beauty School in Des Moines.
She married Darrel Cary on March 1, 1947, in Red Oak. She was a licensed beautician and owned and operated Ruth's Beauty Shop in Red Oak for 35 years. She moved to Corralville from Red Oak in 1968 and was a beautician at Lantern Park Care Center in Corralville for 10 years, returing in 1979. She was a member of American Legion Walter Johnson Post 721 Auxiliary of Corralville. She had recently received an award for 1200 hours for volunteer work at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City. She enjoyed bowling and was active on several league teams.
Survivors include her husband, Darrel, daughter Sharon (Mrs. Randall) Sheffield of Burke, Va; sons, Rodney of Cedar Falls, Philip of Iowa City, Steven Gregory of Ormand Beach, Fl; sisters, Mrs. Pauline Gavel of Seven Hills, Oh, Mrs. Beulah Schietzelt of Rock River, Oh; and eleven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services were Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Clarinda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice Inc., c/o Donohue-Lensing Funeral Home, Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52244.
