      Tombstone Inscription

"Lena was a school teacher, and taught in Rutherford, and Bedford County schools. Even though it meant putting aside her career, she took on the job of helping to raise her half-sister, Margaret, whose mother died in childbirth. When their father died in 1917, the full responsibility for Margaret rested on Lena's shoulders. Although Lena was never married, the word "Mother" inscribed on her tombstone is a beautiful tribute from the little sister whose feelings were those of a loving daughter."
