Note: According to an article on page 238 of "Mercer County Pioneer Traces", Peter Schmidt and his wife Barbara left Germany in 1732. Accompanied by son George Michael, they arrived in Philadelphia on October 17, 1732 aboard the ship "Pink John and William". They migrated to what is now North Carolina and there Peter and his son George received land grants on August 23, 1759. The land formerly belonged to the English Lord Granville who at the time owned much of the western half of the Carolina Colony. The land was on Crane Creek near the present town of Spencer and joined the land owned by Squire boone, the father of Daniel Boone. Their surname, Schmidt, was anglicized to Smith. Peter Smith was born in 1710 and died in 1775.
