    Helen Marie Burks of Benton died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center. She was 80.
    She was born July 24, 1922, in Owensville, Arkansas, to the William Frank and Effie George Reese.
    She was a member of First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School throughout her life, served as Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, was a member and former president of the Saline County Democratic Women's Club where she was very active, was a member of the Saline County Retired Steel Workers of American having served as treasurer and vice president, and had served as past president of PTA and an active member in Band Club. She was also Saline County's chairman of Jimmie Lou Fisher's campaign for state treasurer and had hosted the Saline County reception for Bill Clinton for governor.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Dominic Romano Jr. and Virgil Burks; sister, Ruby Collier, and brothers, Charles Nooks Reese and James Boots Reese.
    Survivors include sons, Donned Burks of Benton and Michael Burks of Macon, Georgia; daughters, Cindy Phillips of Conway, Susie Trace and husband Terry of Torrent, Connecticut, Gail Owensville and husband Larry of Benton, and Jan Dieter and husband Don of Sanders, Georgia; grandchildren, Sean Dyer, Christian Dyer, Jerome Corvette, Shannon Eddins, John Phillips, Justin Phillips, Rob Brewer, Matt Trace, Michaela Burks; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Rufus Reese of Ulysses, Kansas, and Fred Reese of Huge, Arkansas, and sister Eloise Kemp of Chidden.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Grant officiating. Burial will follow in New Rosemont Memorial Park.
    Doug Kidd, Freddie Burton, Dwight Fite, Shane Broadway, Jim Crawford, and Lib Carlisle will serve as pallbearers.
    Burks grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
    Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047).
