    WIDOW's PENSION for War of 1812 soldiers:

    On this 4th day of March 1880 appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the county and State aforesaid, Agnes HUCKABY aged 59 years, a resident of Polk Co. in the State of Missouri who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is a widow of Joseph Huckaby deceased, who was the identical Joseph Huckaby who served under the name Joseph Huckaby as a Private at Barren Co., KY; states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz aged 82 years at the time of his death, Farmer, born in Virginia, 6 foot 1 inch high, Black hair, Eyes Blue, Complex Dark. She further states that she was married to the said Joseph Huckaby in Barren Co., KY on the 23rd day June 1841 by Seth Bradshaw who was a Clergyman and that her name before her said marriage was Agness Kinslow and that she has not remarried since the death of the said soldier; and she further states that I was formerly married to Joseph Kinslow 1838 and the said Joseph Huckaby was married to Mary Bridges on or about 1821 and the said Mary Huckaby died about the year 1838 and that her husband Joseph Huckaby died in Polk Co., MO on the 1st day of Jan 1871 and she further declares that the following have been their only places of residences since being discharged from the army: and that we lived in Barren Co., KY and Polk Co., MO. And the said Joseph Huckaby received a land warrant and that I never made certificates for pension. My residence is Polk Co., MO and P.O. box address is Louisburg, Dallas Co., MO Signed Agness Huckaby, her mark

    Aug 19, 1911 Letter from A. J. Hunter, Bolivar, MO to Comm. of Pensions Wash DC; you are informed that Agnes Huckaby who was pensioned under Cert. No. 30,414 as a widow of Joseph Huckaby, Pvt. of Capt. Thomas Griffin's Co. KY Militia, and paid at Topeka Agency, died on the 7th of Aug 1911, leaving no assets with which to reimburse those who bore expenses of her last sickness and burial. Her son Wayne S. Huckaby whose P.O. Box address is Huckaby, Polk Co., MO desires blanks and instructions for applying to be reimbursed, and be pleased to mail him such papers. A. J. Hunter

    Agnes Huckaby was paid $12 per month up until her death for her widow's pension.

    OBITUARY:

    An "Old Mother in Israel" (Heading of Newspaper Article)
    Miss Agnes Payne was born in Kentucky 82 years ago. She was one of 16 children. All living to be grown. She married Joseph Kinslow, by whom she had two children. After the death of Mr. Kinslow she married Joseph Huckaby, by whom she had 15 children, ?? of whom are now living. She has ?? grand children, and 38 great grand children. By a former wife Joseph Huckaby had 9 children, 31 grand children and 35 great grand children. ?? to this number the two Kinslow children with their 25 children and grand children and we have a total of ?? children living now.

    The mother professed religion in her 17th year, having lived a Christian 65 years. She has been blind a number of years, but is active and strong for her years.

    An Aged Lady Gone (Heading of Newspaper Article)

    Agnes Payne was born in Kentucky, January 20, 1821. She was one of sixteen children, all of whom lived to be grown. In the autumn of 1837, she married Joseph Kinslow, by whom she had two children. Mr. Kinslow died in the spring of 1840, and in 1842 she married Joseph Huckaby. In the early 60's Mr. and Mrs. Huckaby moved to MO and settled in the northeastern part of Polk County. To this marriage was born fifteen children, and at the time of her death near Sentinel, MO, August 7, 1911, "Aunt Agnes" as she was familarly called, left living eleven children, seventy-eight grand children, one hundred one great-grand-children, and four great-great-grand children.

    In her seventeenth year she professed faith in Christ, and for many years to her death was a member of Hopewell Baptist church in this county. The funeral was conducted by B.F. Chamberlain, of Polk, and burial in the Hopewell cemetary.

    For thirty years past before her death she had been blind. Joseph Huckaby was a soldier of the War of 1812, and "Aunt Agnes" was one of the three last pensioners of that war. Mr. Huckaby was in the ever-memorable battle, which was commenced at daylight and lasted until 9 o'clock at night, the British lost more than twenty-five hundred men, including Pakenham, their leader, while the official report of Gen. Andrew Jackson showed the American loss to be "only seven killed and six wounded."
