  • Note: It was with deep regret that we learned on Tuesday morning of the death of Rev. James Broley, of Fergus. He had been at Palmerston, for a few days and got up about five o'clock, intending to take the early train for home at Fergus. Not feeling well, he laid down again and in a short time breathed his last. Neuralgia of the heart was the cause of death. Rev. Mr. Broley was in Acton about ten days ago apparently enjoying excellent health. He called at the FREE PRESS office as he usually did when in town, and in conversation with the writer spoke of his own good health, and regretted the indisposition of Mrs. Broley, who has been an invalid for some time. In paying his subscription for the year, he remarked:- "I must be one of your oldest subscribers, Mr. Moore; I think I have taken the FREE PRESS ever since it was first published." Deceased was pastor of the Methodist church at Fergus, and was completing the last year of a successful three-year term. He was an able preacher and stood well among his brethren, and for years has occupied foremost positions in his conference. At the time of his death he was Financial Secretary of the Guelph District. In 1857 Mr. Broley was teacher of the Public School in Acton and the same year he entered the ministry, his first circuit being Orangeville. Mrs. Broley is daughter of the late Abram Matthews, Esq., of this place. Mrs. Broley and two sons and two daughters survive him. The many friends of the family in Acton unite in heartfelt sympathy with the sorrowing widow and children. The funeral will take place this afternoon at Fergus.
