    Theophilus Cushing Hon. Brigadier General (1740 - 1820) was a farmer and proprietor of a Grist-mill and saw mill. He was a Selectman in 1778, 1779, 1780 and again in 1796 and 1803. Representative in 1776, 1782, 1783, 1785, 1786, 1787, 1788, also in 1794; and a member of the Senate in 1795 and 1796. Resided on the paternal homestead, Main Street, South Hingham.

    Military: Theophilus served in the Revolutionary War as Clerk in Capt. Pyam Cushing's Co., Col. Solomon Lovel's regt., in 1776; and also as 2nd Lieut. in Capt. Herman Lincoln Co., Col. Lovel's regt. He was later made a Brigadier General.

    Cushing, Theophilus. Lieut. Jabez Wilder's co., Col. David Cushing's regt.; service, 6 days, under Col. Lothrop at Hull. Roll dated Feb. 27, 1778.
