NOTES:Hi Ginny, thanks for your emails! Well, this certainly ads some interesting mysteries to my family history! I asked my mom if she knew if her grandfather, William Cushing, had been married before and she said no. But when I mentioned the name, Ella, she said she knew that name because when she went, as a little girl, to the house of Flora (her grandmother) and her step-grandfather, Darwin Sutherland, she always got stuck with the silver napkin ring that had Ella's name engraved while everyone else had their own. No one ever mentioned who Ella was, though. My sister now has that napkin ring. She also has several silver baby spoons that belonged to Jane Gilbert, William Cushing and some others, as well as a silver spoon that was given as a gift to those who attended the 50th anniversary of Jane and William's marriage. I also have a neat card from that event with both their photos and a poem. If you would like me to email you a scanned photo of Jane, William or the card, just let me know. Oh, I have a couple original documents pertaining to William B. Gilbert and Synthia's Silver Creek property from 1854 as well. It is VERY difficult to read, but one interesting thing is Synthia's name spelling, with an 'S.' Since she wrote her signature that way, I guess she changed it along the way. I run into that alot before the 20th century. - CBlyeth@aol.com
