    Obituary

    ROBT. SHOOK'S
    WIFE DIED AT
    11:20 SUNDAY

Mrs. Otilla Shook, wife of Robert Shook, prosperous farmer and general store man of Old DuQuoin, died at her home yesterday morning at 11:20.
Mrs. Shook had been ill for the past several months, during which time everything possible was done to give her relief, but nothing seemed to be able to relieve the suffering caused by cancer which was the cause of her death. She was born in Perry County, Illinois, June 9,1875, and died at her home near Old DuQuoin, on April 17, 1921, being at that time 45 years, 10 months, and 8 days 9ld.
She leaves to mourn her death, besides the sorrowing husband, one daughter, Miss. Ida at home. Her mother, Mrs. John Heberer one brother, W.T. Heberer and three sisters. Mrs. John Zoller and Mrs. William Appahn, all of whom live in or near Du Quoin, and Mrs Albert Ketcher of Santa Anna, Calif., also are left to morn her departure.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at one o'clock at the home in Old Du Quoin. Interment will follow in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery.

    Mrs. Robert S. Shook
    Completes Her
    Earthly Pilgrimage

Called to that "sweet and blessed country, the home of God's elect. "But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly."

The death of Tillie, beloved wife of Robert Shook, occurred at noonday on April 17th.. She was a suffer from the dreaded cancer, and to the afflicted one the summons came as a sweet relief from pain. Her birth occurred in the country near Du Quoin, 45 years ago.
She leaves her devoted husband, and only daughter, Ida. Also an aged mother. Mrs. John Heberer; a brother Will' and sisters three. Mesdames Apphun and Zollere of Old Town, and Ketscher of Santa Anna, California. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon from her late home, the interment across the winding road by the bridge to the lonely ground consecrated to this rrepose of the dead.

    Mid Pastoral Scenes
With the exception of a few years spent near East Park street in our city, her life has been spent amid pastoral scenes and environment. After their residence in our city, the little family returned to the spacious farm manse at Old Town, adjoining the old Seminary, and said to be the highest point of ground in Perry county. The scene is commanding and the view like that from an old wide open doorway.
Mrs. Shook was a lover of great outdoors, and a home maker in the truest sense. Before her final illness her home was a genial place for the country folk and for the motorists and old time friends from our city. The welcome and the plentiful table were awaiting them in that hospitable and prosperous manse. Social gatherings and later party guests and friends of the young daughter passed over the threshold many and many a time.
    The Home Over There
Again the doorway opened on the beautiful day of her burial and these friends with silent feet passed over that once merry threshold. With song and prayer in the faith of the Evangelical church they bore her body to the grave nearby. And looking beyond the things of which are seen her friends hope that somewhere she will watch for them in the doorway on the hilltops of that dearr and blessed country that hath no pain.
