    HONORE DANIS -CALLED THE "TOURANIER".
AT Tours they left from the old quay [a wharf, usually of stone or concrete with facilities for loading and unloading ships] for New France with a heavy cargo of pots and tableware. They passed ahead [?] of the quay and the barges in the direction of St.Nazaire or LaRochelle where the colonists were leaving for New France. Near to here was born Honore Danny [also written Danis] called the "Touranier". Honore was a recruit of Madame de la Dauversiere, he left St-Nazaire in 1653 for Montreal. He married Marie Bedard in 1658 who died in 1664. He remarried in 1666 with
[Perine de la Pierre] De La Perine. The descendants today carry the name Danis or Tourangeau.

"Nothing is known of the other children of Martin and Etiennette, but Honore was born in 1629 in Montoux, France. It is not known where Montoux existed, but it was probably in the Tours area also.
Honore (sometimes spelled Honori, and pronounced On-NOR-ray) enlisted (or was recruited) into the French Army at Le Fleche (north-west of Tours) on 8 May 1653. He was sent to Canada and arrived in Montreal on 11 Nov 1653. His occupation was listed as "maitre charpentier" (master carpenter).

His daughter Jeanne was captured by a Iroquois raiding party on 12 July 1689 in what is known as the "Massacre of La Chine". Honore watched as his daughter was burned alive across the river by the Iroquois warriors. He is said to have died of a broken heart within a year of her death."
