He was heir to his father through the death of his brother, John.

Thomas COLBY, father of Anthony and son of John is the first of the English ancestors of the COLBY line.

He inherited Brundish, in Suffolk County, from his brother John and Roos Hall and other and other valuable property from his first wife.

Thomas COLBY built a new Roos Hall on the state at Beccles, completing the structure in 1583. Of this building, the poet LONGFELLOW says:

"I ask myself, is this a dream?
Will it all vanish into air?
Is there a house of such supreme
    And perfect beauty anywhere?"

The second wife of Thomas of Thomas COLBY, Beatrix FELTON, was mother of all his children. His will was dated 1588 and his widow married William GRIMSTON before 1593.

The proof that Thomas was the father of Anthony rests upon the exact correspondence of the birth dates between 1570 and 1588 and the age of Anthony, and the remarkable similarity in the Christian names in the two families.
