  • Note: Letter from Junius to his brother Jim: Millettville, S.C. // Fby 15th 1931 // Dear Jim - // I received the suit some time back, the shirts earlier, and the shoes quite a while back, and there is no real reason why I haven't written you much earlier than now, it certainly is not because they are not appreciated for I don't know what I would do without them. // I have just bought another pair of very course shoes, (my first since yours came) for $2.75 and was just about naked when the suit came. It fits me fine and I think a lot of it. Wore it to preaching last Sunday. // I have been working for John Ellis for past 3-1/2 weeks and will be there about 2 more weeks altering his house. // Don't know just what we would have done had this work not turned up, for you hear see and feel nothing but hard times on every turn and they are not imaginary either. When John's work is done maybe something turn up. This job is one reason why I haven't written you since the suit came. I am so tired at night that the bed is all I can make. // Cecilia is reading a book now (Sunday night), came about 1/2 sleep sitting in chair by oak fire and the other little fellows in bed except Charles, he is out somewhere with Horace Bennett in Kate's car. Looking for him every minute now. It is 8:15 oclock and about our bed time. // We have just of Vince Dunbar's death (Ela's Bro) somwhere in Colorado. They expect his body about Tuesday. Guess someone has written you of George Kirkland's fire last Saturday night. // Ela was at our house at the time about ;30 at night but we all got there in time to save about everything on the 1st floor, lost eveything on 2nd floor. Don't know how much insurance but think about $10,000.00. // What have you decided about locating? If anything. // I don't know anything that I could offer you in the way of aadvice but I believe that when all the mortgages that are held in South Carolina lands are foreclosed that there is going to be quite a lot of work for lawyers to do, and the sooner they are closed out the better off we are all going to be for they are all holding on now like they had a red hot iron and what for nobody knows but they cant and wont turn loose. // When all these things are straightened out then folks can all get startedover, eith new capital being put into the country and new life in everybody. // Charles has just come in and they are having a conversation in here so reckon I will quit so can go to bed and be ready for tomorrow's work. // Bridge parties are the thing here now, one every week or may 2 a week. Guess you've heard of Mrs. Bailie's death about 3 weeks ago? The Bailie Estate has been the whole subject here ever since and I think all the lawyers in Allendale Barnwell Augusta and maybe more are going to get a slice. // No use telling you much about them for you have always known them and they are no lose to Millett. // Write me as often as you can and if I can help you any in the way of making up your mind as what you want to do I am always ready just as I have been all your life. // as Ever // E.J. Black // I will not read this over for guess you can figure it out.
