  • ID: I4129
  • Name: Thomas Johnston or Johnson
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 1804 in Rockbridge Co., VA
  • Reference Number: 4172
  • Death: AFT 1870 in Cape Girardeau Co., Missouri
  • Name: Thomas Johnston
  • Note: Mary Helen Haines notes: In Elliott Jackson deed of land to his daughter Cinthe and husband Thomas Johnston. His marriage records also records as Thomas Johnston married to Scyntha Jackson on November 20, 1825 in Madison County. Then in 1830 the only thing close is a Thomas Johnson in Cape Girardeau County. In 1848 Thomas Johnson marries Susan C. Rodney on Jan. 15, 1848. By that time both the daughters of Thomas and Cynthia are married and Cynthia is dead. We know the daughters are living in Cape Girardeau, so I assume the Thomas Johnson married to Susan is the same man. In 1870 Thomas is a retired merchant, quite successful, and he has a son by Susan named Thomas, but living with them is an Emily with an unreadable last name, who is 42, has property worth $2000. and is deaf and dumb. Is this his daughter from earlier marriage to Cynthia Jackson. I believe so.
