    Transcript of Will of my 4 x G Grandfather, George Eyre b c1750

    This is the last Will and Testament of me George Eyre of Green Bank in the Parish of Saint Olave Southwark in the County of Surrey Carpenter made this seventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty I direct all my just debts funeral expenses and charges of proving this my Will shall in the [first?]part be fully paid and satisfied I give and devise unto Charles Humphrey of London Bridge ffoot in the City of London Gentleman Attorney at Law Joshua Dobson of Stamford Hill in the County of Middlesex Gentleman and my beloved Wife Elizabeth Eyre their heirs and assigns upon trust all that messuage or tenement with the [apertinents?] situate and being at or near Dockhead in the Parish of St Mary Magdalen in Bermondsey in the County of Surrey aforesaid which I lately purchased to me and my heirs of and from Mr Parsons that is to say upon trust to receive the rents and profits thereof and pay and apply the same unto and for the benefit of my said Wife for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease upon trust for and for the benefit of my three sons by her my said Wife videlicet John Eyre James Eyre and Charles Eyre as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and to their several and respective heirs and assigns for ever Also I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac Matthew Eyre by my said Wife all that messuage or tenement with the apperts situate and being and known by No 11 in King Street Bermondsey New Road in the said Parish of St Mary Magdalen Bermondsey and County of Surrey aforesaid his executors admors and assigns to and for his and their own use and benefit Also I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Eyre all my working Tools and Utensils and Stock of Wood timber and iron and any other things in my trade of a Carpenter to and for his own use and benefit Also I and give and bequeath unto my said Wife Elizabeth Eyre all my household goods and furniture plate linen china ready money and money payable to me from dividends at the Bank at my decease (subject to my said debts and funeral expenses) to and for the absolute use and benefit together also with all my wearing apparel Also I give and bequeath unto the said Charles Humphrey Joshua Dobson and my said Wife Elizabeth Eyre the sum of one thousand and three hundred pounds four pounds per cent Bank annuities (part of my capital in the said Stock in the Bank of England upon trust that they my said trustees their exors and admors do and shall receive and take the interest and dividends thereof for the term of the natural life of my said Wife Elizabeth Eyre and pay and apply the same during such her life and for her own use and benefit together with the dividend that will become due thereon next after her decease to go towards her funeral expenses and thereon and from and immediately after the decease of my said wife Elizabeth I will and direct that the said one thousand and three hundred four per cent bank annuities shall sink into and become part of the residue of my personal Estate hereinafter disposed of and I do hereby reinstitute and appoint the said Charles Humphreys Joshua Dobson and my said Wife Elizabeth Eyre Executor and Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and do declare that it shall and may be lawful to and for the said Charles Humphreys and Elizabeth Eyre by and out of all or any of the first monies which by virtue of this my Will shall come to his or her hands to deduct retain and reimburse himself and herself all such reasonable costs charges and expenses as they shall or may sustain or be put into the execution of this my Will or in or about the trusts thereof and that they my exors or admors or any of them shall be charged and chargeable with any monies except shall not be charged or chargeable with any monies except such as shall [count?] to his her or their hands respectively nor with any loss or damage which may happen without respective wilful neglect or default and that it shall be lawful for the said Charles Humphreys as an Attorney as aforesaid to make his reasonable charges for his fees disbursements and [attendances?] in and about the execution of this my Will and trusts thereof Also I give and bequeath unto my sons George Eyre Joseph Eyre Thomas Eyre David Eyre William Eyre and Daughter Sarah the Wife of Benjamin Rogers of Horselydown Lighterman my children by Mary Ann Eyre my first Wife deceased all my leasehold messuages or tenements and premises with the [apertinents?] including the Ground rents of three pounds and eleven shillings payable by Mr Croxford and Mr Swinbank respectively all situate and being on Green Bank in the Parish of Saint Olave and all my Estate and interest therein respectively to hold to them their exors admors and assigns as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and as to all the residue and remainder of my personal Estate not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of (including the said one thousand three hundred pounds Stock when the same shall fall in) I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said children George Joseph Thomas David William and Sarah the children by my said first Wife and Isaac Matthew John James and Charles Eyre the children of my said present Wife to hold to them my said ten children their exors admors and assigns as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and equally to be have to be divided between them share alike In witness whereof I the said George Eyre the testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal this seventh day of January one thousand eight hundred and twenty George Eyre [SS] – Signed sealed published and declared by the said George Eyre the testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in the presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses the name of Joshua Dobson being first interlined Prior Atkinson Tooley Street Surgeon - John Moon Do – Abrm Cutto - Clerk to Mr Humphreys London Bridge

    Proved at London 18th March 1820 before the Worshipful Samuel Rush [Meyrick?] Doctor of Laws Surrogate by the oaths of Charles Humphreys Elizabeth Eyre Widow the [Relist?] and Joshua Dobson the Executors to whom admor was granted having been sworn duly to [adeux?]

    What he left in his will:

    A property in/near to Dockhead – probably the one in Hickman’s Folly – to his widow, Elizabeth and to be passed on to John, James and Thomas upon her death

    A property as no 11 King Street, Bermondsey New Road to his son, Isaac Matthew

    The property in Greenbank including the rental income received to George, Joseph, Thomas, David, William and Sarah

    Income from £1,300 4% Bank of England stock to his widow, Elizabeth

    All his chattels to his widow, Elizabeth

    His work tools, stock etc to his son, Charles

    All other assets in his Estate to be split equally among his 10 children – including the Bank of England stock when his widow died.
