    He was educated at private schools, his last tutor being the Rev H Jowett of Little Dunham, Norfolk, where he formed a close
    friendship with his fellow pupils, the Grants, one of whom became distinguished as Lord Glenelg and the other as Sir Robert Grant,
    Governor-General of Bombay. John entered St John's College, Cambridge. After passing some months with the grants in Edinburgh
    he was ordained in 1802 to the curacy of Ripley, Surrey.
    Occupation (1802):
    John Venn was a well-known member of the so-called Clapham sect, and was described by John Cunningham as 'Berkely' in his book
    'The Velvet Cushion'.
    Death (30 September 1861):
    During his life John Cunningham was distinguished for courtesy and kindness of heart and was a prominent member of the evangelical party of the Church of England
