See H.S. Lyman article, "Reminiscences of James Jory" in the Oregon Historical Quarterly reports that Thomas C. Jory graduated from Willamette University, Salem and taught mathematics there and had presented a patent on conversion of rotary motion from reciprical motion but was behind Westinghouse in his patent application. (It is unclear if this can be attributed to this Thomas Jory or Thomas C., son of James Jory). The Lyman article also describes this Thomas thus, "Thomas C. Jory, well known over the entire state as an educator and an advanced thinker on political and social matters, lives upon a part of the old donation claim in a locality of ideal Oregon beauty, with his wife and three children."
