      Obituary: Matilda (Stockwell) ROSS 1835 - 1919

Matilda Ross was born in Canada January 19, 1835; died April 24, 1919 and was 84 years, three months and five days old. She was married to Nelson Ross in Canada in 1854. From this union 11 children were born, six of whom are still living, five sons and one daughter.
Years ago the family moved from Canada to Iowa, and later to Missouri. For a number of years Sister Ross has lived in Lee's Summit, Missouri, and was much loved by those who knew her.
While visiting one of her sons in Kansas she was stricken with paralysis from which she never recovered. Her suffering at the last was great but she bore it with Christian fortitude and spoke of her desire to go to her heavenly home and be at rest with loved ones, and made special mention of her son Wesley, who had recently passed to the other life.
She was not only loved by her children, but by all who knew her. Her seat will be vacant and she will be missed.
The funeral services will be held at her late home in Lee's Summit, conducted by her pastor, Reverend J.M. Carter, assisted by Reverend J.M. Collins on Sunday afternoon, April 27, after which she was buried in the beautiful cemetery in Lee's Summit.
Surviving children are: Sarah, Samuel, Wilbur, Albert, Nelson Jr., and George. Children preceding her were: Charles, Zacharia, Amanda, Alfred, and Wesley.
Matilda Ross was accepted into the Fourth Street M.E. Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri, on confession of faith on 12 June 1916 by Reverend A.M. Carpenter.
