  • Note: Note: REF: Sharon Kay Penman "The Reckoning": Conspired (Jan 1274)with his son Owain de la Pole & Dafydd ap Gruffydd Lord Denbighto murder Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Dafydd's own brother. He & hisson were brought to trial before Llywelyn & admitted conspiracyw/out implicating Dafydd, but in October 1274 Dafydd'sinvolvement was sufficiently rumored to bring him too before thejudgement seat of his brother. Llywelyn gave him untilMartinmas to produce witnesses to "prove" he was not in Powysconspiring with the Lord of Powys & his son on the dates inquestion. But on 31 Oct 1274, Owain de la Pole, who was ahostage in Llywelyn's hands for his father's good faith,confessed all to Llywelyn's Seneschal. Llywelyn issued a writfor Dafydd's arrest. Dafydd fled to England with Gruffydd apGwenwynwyn where Edward, despite being allied with Llywelyn,provided for them generously at Shrewsbury & they began to forgeraiding parties into Wales, despite the fact that Llywelyn hadconquered all of Powys & had burned Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn'sseat to the ground. In April 1277, Roger de Mortimer tookLlywelyn's castle at Donforwyn & restored Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwynto power in Powys.
