_FA1: Founder of the Cistercian Abbey of Ustrad Marchell.
_FA2: His uncle Madoc ap Maredudd allowed him to rule Cyfieliog.
_FA3: This rule was to be an appendage to the kingdom of Powys.
_FA4: When Madoc died, Owain was able to keep Cyfieliog & adjacent areas.
_FA5: Resulted in only northern Powys going to Madoc's son Gruffydd.
_FA6: This split the kingdom of Powys into two petty dominions.
_FA7: Resulted in Powys' loss of status as equal w/ kingdoms of Gwynedd & Deheubarth.
