    1867: Cheyenne was founded by Jon. J.R. Whitehead on 9th of July at 2pm. Withinhours, tens were being pitched & families moving in. George Rath must have been an early inhabitant. He is listed in the first Cheyenne City Directory in 1868.

    26 Jan 18__? date unreadable: George sold land to w. Corlett for $500 inLaramie Co. Wyoming Territory as: "lot 16 in Black numbers four hundred and seventeen as maped and laid out by the Union Pacific Railroad company in the cityof Cheyenne."

    1868; Cheyenne City Directory: listed as Hotel Keeper and living on Ferguson St. No house number listed.

    20 July 1869:Laramie County, Dakota: some type of deed, I have not read carefully. Also got a couple mortgage records.

    1880 Wyoming census: George 43, Bertha 35, William 10, Bertha 8, Emma 4, John 2, Fred 10 months. George listed as baker, wife as keeping house. William at home, Bertha at school. George & Bertha born in Germany, all the kids born in Wyo.

    26 Oct 1885 Wyo state archives: "Declaration of Intent" to become a citizen of hte us and renounce allegiance from the emperor of Germany

    8Aug 1890 laramie County, Wyoming Territory: Wyoming state archives: Judge signed form during the swearing in of persons to become citizens

    30 Dec 1884: Wyostate archives:County recorded he bought "our sixteenth milest in the Valley Qurram Sead Sodeon mineral deposit situates in Rawhide Butte mining Cist, Laramie Co. Wyoming Territory for the consideration of $200"

    1892: Cheyenne City directory George is listed as laborer and living at 2017 Pebrican.

    27 Mar 1896: Obituary says he came to Cheyenne in 1867 as an early settler and lived her ever since. Two weeks ago took to his bed which he never arose. Suffered a complication of diseases and the immediate cause of his death was party due to paralysis. Born in Stuttgart Germany 9 Mar 1837 ind was 59 yrs 16 days old at time of death.One daughter is married and living in Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Rufus Ford. Wifes obitsays he started the Western Hotel and was the hotel keeper.

    5/2000: Western hotel in Cheyenne is no longer standing...as far as I can tell. Was accross from the railroad depot. There is a parking lot now. There are a few old buildings down the road a little, but nonemarked western hotel. Some are still being used. Western Hotel only listed as "15th st across from depot"
    5/2000: drove and found where 2017 Pebrican would be today....it is now a parking lot for a large building.
    5/2000: He is buriedin space 1002 in cemetary. Vistited, most of the family is there.
    5/200: Not in Hamburg to US index for 1856-1871
    5/2000: he is not in Baden/Wurtemberg catholic parish register fo rbaptisms for 1808-1854
    7/2000: found location of theWestern Hotel. It is on 15th st between Capitol and Carey St. However based onthe map, there is not a dirt parking lot there. It closed/vacated between 1894when I have it on a map and 1907 when the hotel that is there next to it was built.
    1/2001: Rath in German means "Counsel"
