  • Note: He was a native of England, his home being with sight of Bow Bells, England. He learned the shoemaking trade, but made a voyage to the East Indies and then, in the winter of 1832-3, came in a Yarmouth brig (Capt David Cook), to the coast of NS, where the vessel was wrecked on the Tusket Islands. He crried a rope to the shore by which the lives of all the crew were saved. They landed at Pubnico, and tried to make Barrington by way of the Nine Mile Woods, but were compelled to camp out there, and his feet were frozen. He settled at West Barrington, followed his trade, and married. 2
