Margaret or Peggy Kennedy (1766 ? 95) was the daughter of the factor to the Earl of Cassilis, Robert Kennedy of Daljarrock, near Colmonel, and younger sister of Mrs Gavin Hamilton, at whose house Burns met her when she was 18. Being much impressed by her beauty and wit, he wrote the song, 'Young Peggy' in her honour, enclosing it in a letter to her. It was published in 1787 in Johnson's Scots Musical Museum.

I have quite a bit of info re Robert Kennedy of Daljarrock, whose wife was Grizel Cathcart, children Elizabeth, Margaret (Burns' "Young Peggy), Jean, Grizel (my ancestor), Thomas and Robina, and their descendents. suggests that another sister, Helen, was married to the bard's friend, Gavin Hamilton, but I haven't verified. Grizel was of the Carleton Cathcart and Culzean Kennedy families. Daljarrock was factor at Culzean.
Capt. Robert Kennedy of Daljarrock Esq. was admitted a Councillor of Maybole on July 31 1772. On the same day Thomas Kennedy in Kirkwynd was put out of of the council for non-attendance. Could he have been Robert?s father?
    Kirkwynd is at Maybole.
    Any connection?
The Will of ROBERT KENNEDY made in 1792 was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. It is now held by the Public Record Office at Kew, Richmond, Surrey TW9 4DU.
Robert owned a lot of property in Ayrshire, but the only place-name I can find on the OS map, scale 1:250,00 is the Parish of Colmonell. Someone more skilled at reading old writing would recognise others.
His son THOMAS, then in BARBADOS, was his heir. His named siblings were Margaret, Robina, and Jean.

On 19th March 1610 the Privy Council ws petitioned by Andro McChrutter in Cossfinik for letters of charge against Alexander Kennedy of Daljarrock, his sons John and Patrik Kennedy, and his wife Besie Grahame. The complaint was that on a Sunday in October 1609 he had been waylaid on his way to the parish church of Colmonell by Alexander Kennedy who was armed and armoured for war. McChrutter ran for it, pursued by Kennedy who would have killed him if John Mure of Spensartoun had not come to his rescue. [Petition granted.]
Anna KENNEDY, daughter of a KENNEDY of Daljarroch, married John CAMPBELL of Kinzeancleuche, who died ca 1752.
