Sir Hugh Tyrell (Terrell) II was also a famous soldier and distinguished himself in the Crusades. In the Hall of the Crusades at Versailles, in folio 24, number 125, is an article on Hugh Tyrell (Terrell) II, Lord de Poix. His Coat of Arms is in the third Hall of the Crusades. Hugh Tyrell (Terrell) II died in 1199. He had married, first, in 1161 Isabelle de Wignacourt of the illustrious family in Picardy, and second, in 1173, Marie de Senarpoint, also of distinguished blood. He left two children, Gaulthier (Walter) V, and Hughes (Hugh) Tyrell (Terrell). The older son, Walter, inherited, as usual under the law of primogeniture, all the titles and possessions of France of his father. This line in France, after producing many distinguished men, finally died out in 1417, the titles and possessions passing to the female side, the family of Moyencourt, where the titles continue to this day.
At this point, we may mention that none of the Tyrell (Terrell) line up to this time had settled in England. As stated before, Sir Walter Tyrell (Terrell) I, who distinguished himself at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, under William the Conqueror, received a large grant of land in Essex County, England. He and his descendants, up to the year 1199 or 1200, remained in Picardy, on the vast family estates, where they held titles as Prince de Poix, etc.
SIR HUGH TYRRELL, Lord of Poix and first Baron of Castelknock, ireland in 1173. He was with "Strongbow" in Ireland in 1169 and was Governor of Trim in 1183. He was at the siege of Acre in 1191 (Third Crusade) and was known as "The Grecian Knight", one of "De Lacy's Barons". He married Isabel de Vignacourt in 1161 and married secondly Marie de Senarpont in 1173.
He died in 1199 and is buried at Selincourt, Picardy, France.
