One of the daughters and (after her brother's death) coheirs of Thomas Battail son of Sir John Battail of Ongar Park, Knight and of his wife Elizabeth the sole daughter and heir of Sir Thomas Enfield of High Laver.
In 1397 Thomas?s son John Battail, about to go on crusade, settled the reversion of the manors of Matching Barns and Brent Hall, at Hatfield Broad Oak, on his sister Margaret, on condition that she married John de Boys of Tolleshunt d'Arcy. If there was no issue of the marriage the manor was to be divided between Margaret and her sister Alice.
John Battail died soon after 1397, and John Barrington, who had married Alice Battail, contested the claim of John and Margaret de Boys.
