Killer of the Imperial warlord Count Wallenstein in the Thirty Years War.
Created Count of the Holy Roman Empire, Field Marshall, Imperial Chamberlain, Privy Councillor and Knight of the Golden Fleece.
Walter, Count Leslie, succeeded as Baron of Balquhain, but next disponed it to his brother Alexander, the rightful heir. Ed. comments: 'Apparently Walter did not get matriculated as Baron prior to the next disposition and therefore was not numbered as a Leslie Baron of Balquhain.'
Though he sold his brother William's disposition of Balquhain to the Scottish brother, Alexander Leslie of Tullos, he sent Alexander afterwards many gifts of money to enable him to buy back portions of the family estates as they came into the market; and he added more substantial kindness.
Succeeded by his nephew James, 2nd Count Leslie.Page: Stewart Earl of Atholl
