BRADFORD was the " broadford" over the Torridge.
Besides Bradford itself, Dunsland, Henscott, and Lashbrook are all mentioned in Domesday. Dunsland descended to the Arscotts of Arscott, by marriage with the Battyn heiress, in 1522. They held it until 1634, when William Bickford married the Arscott heiress.
Dunsland House was bought by the National Trust in 1954 with the intention of restoring it and opening it to the public.
In 1967 it was destroyed by a fire which left a smoking, structurally-dangerous ruin that had to be demolished.
The location of the house is now marked by a plaque.
Said to have remarried William Holland of Sheepwash.
