Alison, daughter and coheiress of John Charteris, of Cuthilgurdie and Kinclaven, married before 30 July, 1531 when she granted a charter for her lands of Forgone to James Chisholm of Glassingall.
... but who escaped, was John Charteris of Cuthilgurdy, who had, on 1st October 1543, been elected Provost of Perth, with Arran's support.11 He was a cousin of Gray's as his mother, Janet Gray, was a daughter of the second Lord Gray.
...He would, naturally, now support the sister of John Charteris and widow of Thomas Fothringham and her relation, Thomas Charteris, in their fight against the English.
