Cotes estate deeds 16th-19th century are held in Staffs Record Office ref D(W) 1736.

Cotes household and estate papers and family album 1776-1881 [too late for John] are held in Shropshire Records and Research Centre ref 231 NRA 33951 Cotes/
His second son Digby was Rector of ..., Principal of Mag: Halls? and public orator in the University of Oxford.
The chapel at Woodcote contains several neat tablets to the memory of the Cotes family; a large marble slab, near the altar rails, appears to have been the top of an altar tomb; it is curiously ornamented with two full-length figures, and has a mutilated inscription round the edge.

?John Cotes, MP Lichfield 1708-1715 (when defeated under the name of Thomas Cotes). Steward of that city May 6, 1726, till December, 1734, was of Woodcote,. Salop; son of Charles Cotes of same; born 1680; licensed June 21, 1700, then "aged 18? to marry Lady Dorothy Shirley (who died March 11, 1739)? sixth dau of 1st Earl Ferrers.

The Cotes later owned Pitchford as well as Woodcote:
Charles Cecil Cope Jenkinson, 3rd Earl of Liverpool died without male issue and the estate was divided up between his three daughters. Pitchford passed to his youngest daughter, Louisa (1814-1887) who married John Cotes (1799-1874) [g grandson of this John d 1756]. On his death, Pitchford passed to his second son, Charles James Cotes. He died unmarried and Pitchford passed to his sister, Victoria Alexandria (1840-1918), who married secondly Lieut-General Sir Robert Grant (1837-1904). On Victoria's death, Sir Charles J.C. Grant became the owner of Pitchford.
