John C and Margaret Hepburn are presumed [to be the] parents of Sir John Cockburn of Ormiston, Secretary of State.
Jim Weber has him dying before 1486.
Presumably a descendant of the Alexander Cockburn mentioned in this deed: ?Alexander Lindsay of Ormiston made over to Johanna, his daughter, and her husband, Alexander Cockburn, his lands of Ormiston, Muirhous, Templishall, and Pastoun, in the county of Haddington, confirmed by David II. at Edinburgh 23rd February 1368.?
[Other sources says Joan/Jonata/Janet Lindsay married John, the 2nd son of Alexander Cockburn of Cockburn (Langton).]
The above John (or Alexander) became known as the ?father of Scottish agriculture?.
