Preston Tower is a Pele Tower with 7ft thick walls built by Robert Harbottle in 1392. [Either not this man, or his birth date of 1370 is wrong.]
What stands today, converted into a clock tower, is the main survivor from a very ambitious pele tower built around 1415 by the Sheriff of Northumberland, Robert Harbottle.
At the beginning of the fifteenth century a certain Robert Harbottle, about whose family nothing is known, married Isabel, heiress of Sir Bertram Monboucher.
But if he was Sheriff and builder of a pele tower, he must have some known ancestry?
