Sir Robert de Laweder, firstly ?of Edringtoun, then ?of Lauder and Bass?. This Sir Robert appears in numerous charters notably that of 1471 when he received from his father the Edringtoun estates. On the 2nd February 1477 he was sent by the King, with Alexander Lord Home, Adam Blackadder of that Ilk, and Lyon King of Arms, to be one of the bearers of the instalment of Princess Cecilia?s dower which was due by Candlemass. On the 20th January he had been appointed by the King as custodian, or governor, of the castle at Berwick-upon-Tweed for 5 years with a retainer of 200 merks per annum. In September 1489 Hugo de Dunbar of Bele resigned his lands into the hands of the King who regranted them to Sir Robert.
In 1497 he received King James IV as a guest into his castle on The Bass.
Sir Robert married c1469 Lady Isobella, daughter of John Hay, 1st Lord Yester by his wife Elizabeth Cunningham. Isobella was a descendant of King Robert the Bruce.
Sir Robert de Laweder died c1508.
On 1 February 1508 Sasine was granted to his son, also Robert, of The Bass and other holdings, confirmed in the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland. It is assumed Sir Robert has died.
