Henry de Newburgh married (2) Philippa Basset, one of the three daughters and heirs of his guardian, Thomas Basset, of Herendon, but had no issue. This countess, outliving him, paid 100 marks to King Henry III., that she not be compelled to marry again, but that she might select her own husband, provided he were a loyal subject. She afterwards married Richard Siward, a turbulent person, but of a martial disposition from his youth, who took an active part with the barons. From this boisterous soldier she was, however, eventually divorced.
