The VANSes OF BARNBARROCH descend from the Norman family of de Vallibus or de Vaux, which held lands in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex at the time of the Domesday Book 1086; a branch of the De VAUX held Dirle.[Surely means Dirleton - see Vaux of Direlton in this file.]
    ---
A nephew of William de Vaus of Dirleton married the heiress to the lands of Barnbarroch in Wigtownshire around 1384. The estate of Dirleton passed into other hands and the principal family of this name was thereafter styled ?of Barnbarroch?.
    ---
I have assumed the William de Vaus mentioned above is the one who left an heiress.
    ---
Reputed to have obtained the lands of Barnbarroch in Wigtownshire from Archibald, Earl of Douglas and lord of Gallowayin 1384.
His son was ?probably? as shown.
