    He was 21 years old on July 7, 1416, the Feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr in 4 Henry V (March 21, 1416, to March 20, 1417). He had livery of his inheritance out of the hands of Thomas and David de Holes on April 26, 1417. After his death leaving a daughter but no male heirs, the barony of Shipbrook reverted to James de Vernon, and Joanna received a sixth of the barony of Nantwich.

    The eldest of these infants was another Richard de Vernon who had been born in July 1395. In 1408 he was married to Ellen Holes, but he died eleven years later leaving only a solitary daughter, Joan, who married Sir Robert Fouleshurst, and the Vernon Shipbrook inheritance, as it had been only originally granted to Richard son of Ralph de Vernon of Shipbrook in tail male, passed to the elderly James Vernon who qualified under the last section of the 1325 settlement as the right heir of Ralph de Vernon senior.
