Margaret, the widow of William Wenthall (died 1468), and wife of Sir Henry Ferrers of Peckham, was the daughter and co-heiress of William Hextall of Peckham (1405-70). His wife brought him considerable estates in Kent as well as the manor of Peckham.
His son William married Anne, dau of James Crowmer and Anne Canteloupe (qv).
The family of Whetenhall, or Whet-nail, was possessed of the estate of Hextall Court from the time of Henry VIII [1509-47] until within a few years past, when one of them, Henry Whetenhall, Esq. alienated it to John Fane, Earl of Westmoreland.
[Surely they gained Hextall?s Court a bit earlier than tmp Hen VIII if it was by the marriage to Margaret Hextall?
Thomas Hextall of Hextall?s Court was Mayor of Dover 1465 and subsequently, and his son Edward until 1495.]
Hasted says the estate was purchased by Sir William Twisden of Henry Whetenhall, Esq.
William Twysden of Chelmington and Wye married Elizabeth (Plate III), the heiress of Roydon, East Peckham, in 1542.
