    Succeeded his grandfather.
    Ardent Royalist. [Or was that his son Thomas who was knighted by King Charles in 1641, and dunm soon after the restoration?].]
    The first of the family to be Protestant.
    Had Charter of the lands of Montcoffer and Luncarty, 29 June 1628.
    One of his sons was Sir Thomas, the genealogist (1611-1660).(Best known for his translation of the French writer Rabelais 'Gargantua and Pantagruel' said by some to be "more like Rabelais than Rabelais was himself." Sir Thomas died in 1660 of an uncontrollable fit of laughter on hearing of the Restoration of Charles II.

    Got himself hopelessly in debt because of poor estate management (after the time that his great uncle the Tutor of Cromarty was in charge), and his support of the royalist cause.
    Sir Thomas was hard pressed by his creditors, and after part of the family estate had been alienated received a letter of protection "from his creditors from Charles I in 1637. In the same year, his son Thomas and a younger one were accused of forcibly detaining their father in an upper room, but the matter was settled without further proceedings.
    Died in April 1642?
    Thomas Urquhart was knighted at Edinburgh in 1617, by James the Sixth, but from
    this period till his death in 1642, his course of life was not prosperous
