  • Name: Richard Pomeroy 1 2
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 1560 in Beamister, Dorset 3
  • Death: 7 FEB 1612 in Symondsbury, Dorset
  • Note:

Said to be father of Henry Pomeroy of Sandridge, father of Elizabeht who married Thomas Conrwallis qv). But the dates do not stack up.
On the 5th of July (1575) commission issued to Richard POMEROYE, natural and lawful son of Henry POMEROYE, late of Totnes in the County of Devon, deceased, having (goods rights and credits of the same deceased, sworn well (to administer) &c., with revocation of the letters of administration of the goods of the said deceased formerly granted to one Richard POMEROYE, now or late of Totnes aforesaid, in consequence of suppression of the truth & false statement and fraudulently by him obtained in the month of June, 1559, and the annulling thereof as appears by the acts of this court drawn up on this present day. INVENTORY exhibited on the 4th.
From a Latin document dated 5 July..., it is deduced that a Richard Pomeroy did in June 1559 obtain ?letters of administration surreptitiously?. The translation read regarding letters of administration ?one Richard Pomeroy, now or lately of Totnes?.
Dorset is one of the major 'home bases' of the POMs along with Cornwall & Devon. There have been concentrations in the adjacent areas of Bridport & Beaminster for several centuries. It is not clear how these link with families in nearby Honiton just across the border in Devon, in Exeter and beyond.
