    WILL OF THOMAS KYTE OF BROADWELL, GLOUCESTERSHIRE
    Will dated 1.1.1576
    In the name of God Amen. In the year of our Lord God 1576 the first day of January I Thomas KYTE of Broadwell in the County of Glos. and yeoman sick of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God therefore do make this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows. Hereto I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator and redeemer and my body to the earth whether it shall seem conbement (?) in ...pen (?) burial and my goods to the word as follows. Then I give and bequeath to my equerry in Broadwell 7d. Then to John BARKER and son, to Roy IRELAND, to Agnes of Wolford and to any of them 7d. Then to she of the poorest household in Stow amongst them 2d. Then to any one of my god children 4d. a piece all with my said bequest to be paid and delivered with 2 monies next after my days. Then I give and bequeath to Thomas KYTE my son 8 of goods and lawful English money and one table board to be paid and owed unto him at the age of twenty one years. Then to Robert KYTE and Humfrey KYTE my sons 6. share of like lawful English money and one table board a piece to be paid and owed unto them at the age of twenty one years. Then to Richard KYTE and John KYTE and to any of them 6. 13s. 4d. and one table board a piece to be paid and owed unto them at age of twenty one years All with legacies shall be paid Paid if if my overseers think well of it. Then I give and bequeath to Jone KYTE my daughter 6. 14s. 4d. of like lawful English money to be paid unto her at the age of 21 years or on the day of her marrying. Then I give to my daughter Jone KYTE one heifer that is in calf to be delivered at All Hallow Tide next ensuing the date hereof and if it happen anyone or more of these my children to depart out of their natural life within the aforesaid then their share to departed to be equally divided amongst the aforesaid being alive Then I leave and bequeath to Ann KYTE my wife forty shillings of lawful money of England every year during her widows estate to be paid out of my farm in Broadwell to the said Ann in the same chamber in the name of Ann KYTE by mine assignees at four and feast most usual that is to free at the feast of St. Michael the Archangel then that of Cehristmas the feast of the Purification of Blessed Mary the Virgin and Saint John the Baptist by even portions the first payment to the said family to begin the next quarter day after my death whensoever it shall happen without shame or guile. Also I leave to the said Ann my wife the chambers called the steam (?) chamber next the wood yard with free ingress egress and regress as oft as need shalt require without the interuption of any of mine assignees and without paying any rent or keeping and rep....rons (?) but mine assignees to repair the said spouse chamber and to build a conbement (?) chimney in the holwaule (?) of the said chamber to her use within two years next after my days and also to repair all other housing and building hedge and mounds belonging to the said farm from time to time during the said lease as oft as need shall require then my will is that mine assignees shall find and provide to the said Ann my wife sufficient meat and drink fire and candle washing and requiring for herself and her friends coming as strangers as oft as need shall require during her widowhood nothing for the said chamber or in the hall as she will Also that mine assignees being possessed of my farm called Nether Court shall keep or cause to be kept anyone or more of my children being not married if by Gods permission they shall be lame sick or deceased during the time of his her or their sickness without any payment causing his her their sinful fire and candle washing and wringing Also their conditions before mentioned and hereafter in this present testament certified as expressed. I reassign my lease of the said farm in Broadwell called the Nether Court which I knowd well in which all the years year to come to Willm. KYTE my son if the said Willm. so long do live and for lack of the said Willm. my son the remainder of the said lease with like conditions to Thomas KYTE my son if the said Thomas so long do live and for lack of the said Thomas KYTE the remainder of the said lease with all the years to come and with like conditions to Robert KYTE my son if the said Robert so long live and for lack of the said Robert which like conditions to John KYTE my son and for lack of the said John the remainder and the rest to Richard KYTE my son and for lack of the said kin which like conditions to Humfrey KYTE my son and for lack of the said Humfrey the remainder of the rest which like conditions to Jone KYTE my daughter and to the said Jone so long live and for lack of the said four which like condition to the next of my kin as I gave assignees my lease before and any of them be my tenant of the places aforesaid to see Ann my wife truly paid all the days appointed with her chamber meat and drink to fire and candle washing and wringing sufficient and meat for her aforesaid during her widowhood estate Also I will and with like condition before expressed I give and bequeath my coffer that my dear wife has the best table board in the hall and the best chair deyse (?) board and former benches the malt mill head chesternes (?) with all manner of browsinge stalls or rack for beef horse and sheep with all scandons (?) mangers tablete scaffolds with all wood and timber that shall be upon the farm growing all gates doors gesses (?) leffesses (?) and leads for windows conditions. Except one bedstead for Ann my wife to Wilm. KYTE and Thomas KYTE Robt. KYTE John KYTE Richard KYTE Humfrey KYTE Jone KYTE and for lack of them to the next of my kin as I have assigneed my lease before and any of them be my tenant to occupy sell therefore said thing and to maintain the farm from time to time as often as need shall require and not to be taken away before the end of the said lease. Then I give and bequeath to the said Ann KYTE my wife the third bushell of all corn and grain of any whole crops of my farm next after my departure except I shall require to sell or give any of the same in the field by my life. Then I give to the said Ann my wife my second best horse or gelding also kine being indifferently taken by my overseers and for them I will that mine assignees shall keep at their prop cost and charges all her cattle aforesaid and be sold year next after Holyrood Day in May next after my death to those of the said Ann my wife Then I give to the said Ann my wife the second best feather bed furnished and the bedstead press and hanging shelf in the farm and sales of my household stuff throng she slept the best featherbed furnished to Wilm. KYTE my son and all other thing before expected and bequested. Then I give and bequeath to the said Ann my wife 22 geese and hens and kine the ewes and their lambs to be kept orderly sound and winter on the commons as that thee sheep of mine assignees are the sow and kine to be kept in the close sound and wnt (?) and at the charge of mine assignees and this gift to be free more than as abcresid (?) in the will but to continue during the windows estate. Then I give and bequeath to Wilm. KYTE my son aforesaid the remains of my goods and chattles moveable and immovable not bequeather not assigned. Then I will that Wilm. FREEMAN of Adlestrop give the keeping of my lease and also a count and share of my will in good hope that he will be a trusty friend from time to time to mine assignees Then that Wilm. KYTE mine assignee shall give the count and share of my lease which sell other script and scrowles whatsoever they be during my life and after his life to (delit?) and the same to the next assignee and so from assignee to assignee as long as the lease endureth furthermore And finally I ordain constitute and make Wilm. KYTE my son aforesaid my trusty executor to see my debts legacies and bequests and mine sheriff be my the best beast truly performed and paid my body honestly brought unto the church and my children brought up in the fear of God Also I do sign and pray Wilm. FREEMAN the elder Thomas BARKER and Wilm FREEMAN (Fm?)
