  • ID: I00029
  • Name: John King
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 27 JUL 1852 in Frittenden, Kent County, England
  • Death: 26 MAY 1936 in Baldwinsville, New York
  • Event: Comment 2 30 APR 2002 Sexton at cemetary in Baldwinsville, ny
  • Note: John remembered walking to Staplehurst in 1865 to the site of the train wreck which had killed or injured many people -- and in which the author Charles Dickens was a passenger. A bridge over the river Beult was being repaired and all 7 of the first-class carriages fell into the river, except one. Charles Dickens and his two companions were in this car. Holding onto the second-class carriage and it's own couplings, is all that saved it from the same fate as the others. When John walked to the crash site "they were drawing the last carriage up out of the river."). Cora and John lived near Ionia until 1887 when they moved to Baldwinsville. John was sexton of Riverview cemetery at Baldwinsville for 29 years (where many family members were buried).
